About Srinivas Byreddy
An extract of from his nomination form for the role of Ambassador
Srinivas Byreddy has been a studious ex-student of the local Telugu Community Language School in NSW. During his early education at Telugu school he has grown a great passion towards his mother tongue of Telugu and has continued to apply his language skills to further understand the culture and to connect with the local Telugu community.
He has been a regular participant and volunteer at various Telugu community programs/events over the years. He has also been an inspiration to the emerging generation of local Telugu community children in NSW.
Here is a brief list of examples that showcase Srinivas' connection with the Telugu language and how he has given back to the community using these important skills
- He has been a part of multiple Telugu language dramas and skits over the years
- He has participated in copious Telugu community radio programs hosted on 2000 FM 98.5
- He has played a MC role for the Telugu New year program (Ugadi) organized by Sydney Telugu Association
- He has volunteered to maintain the Sydney Telugu Association website
- He is an active member in the Satya Sai Organization Australia Young Adults group and has represented Australia in two overseas music programs in both 2016 and 2019 teaching the Telugu songs to be performed in the programs
- He plays the Tabla and Dholak (Indian drums) and accompanies various vocalists in community devotional programs that include Telugu compositions.
Role of the Ambassador
- Participate in the activities of the Community Language School events for one year
- Give advice to students and parents on the benefits of learning community language
- Attend the Minister’s Awards for excellence in student achievement Community Languages Schools
What is Community Language Ambassador Program?
As part of the Communities United Though Language reform, the Community Languages Schools Program is inviting community language schools to nominate a suitable candidate to become a Community Language Ambassador.
This program will acknowledge the achievements of outstanding community representatives across a range of community languages, promoting the benefits of studying a community language and how it contributes to achieving personal goals.
Ambassadors will be community role models, chosen by local communities because of their achievements and experiences in learning and studying a community language.
The Community Languages Schools Board will oversee the program and encourage Ambassadors to support local Community Languages Schools across a range of languages. Ambassadors will participate in the activities of school events and give advice to students and parents on the benefits of learning a community language.
Each year, new Ambassadors will be announced at the NSW Community Languages Schools Program Annual Minister’s Awards and their achievements detailed.

Please note only one nomination per community organisation will be accepted and the nominee must have attended a community languages school prior to 2019. Teachers and current students are not eligible.
The Communities UnitedThrough Language reform also allows limited funding for community languages schools teachers to access professional learning activities organised by the Community Languages Schools Program or by community organisations applying for funding.
In 2017 and 2018, the Program’s Project Officer, Barbara Schaffer, organised language specific conferences in Arabic, Armenian, Dari/Farsi/Persian, Khmer/Lao/Thai/ Burmese, Korean, Russian, Turkish and Vietnamese. In addition, community groups were funded to organise conferences in Polish, Indian Languages and Tamil.
Many teachers were also funded to attend externally held conferences in Chinese, German, Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Spanish and Swedish.
